I have always been intrigued with the human mind and how the physical body is affected by the mind and vice versa. I initially pursued a degree in Physical Therapy, switched courses and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My first job in nursing after moving to the U.S. was at a crisis stabilization unit. I have been working in the mental health field ever since. I later went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing and become board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Over the past few years I have also taught Psychiatric Nursing at Georgia State University and University of North Georgia helping future nurses learn about mental health to enrich their nursing careers.
I always make it a point to get to know my patients and understand the different situations they are in. I respect their uniqueness and make the effort to tailor fit the treatment approach. After coming up with a plan based on evidence-based practices and gold standards of care, I encourage my patients to be actively involved in the treatment so that they will have ownership and accountability for their well-being.
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young children. We enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures, trying out new food and embarking on adventures as a family.
